What is a Web Site?

A web site is like a book. When looking at a book, you begin at the Table of Contents to determine what kind of information is contained in each chapter. It also provides page numbers for each chapter. In addition, each chapter is devoted to one topic or issue. The chapters make up a book.

Chapters are equal to web pages on a web site. Each web page is devoted to one topic or issue. In web terms, the Table of Contents is the navigation bar. The navigation bar allows you to click on links which take you to different pages of the web site.

Navigation Bar

A web site will most likely have an address like: http://www.ccowebservices.com.

A web site will have an address like:

This is your website

A web page will have an address like:
webdesign.htm is your web page

This point is important to understand as you get further along with optimizing your site.

If you already have a web site, write down on a sheet of paper what pages you have on your site and the main topic of each. If you are in the process of planning a web site, do the same, as it will help you to become organized with developing your site.
